THANKS FOR BEING A PART OF WHAT WE DO...

December 10, 2018

It has been an amazing journey so far. Thank you for being a huge part of our lives in 2018. Without your support, we wouldn't be able to make a difference in the lives of our rescues.

2018 has been a very productive year for us. Our main focus this year was to be able to launch The Care Project. The Care Project is an independent subsidiary of Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. On top of conducting service and elephant care audits throughout the different locations, The Care Project also coordinates projects focused on directly impacting the lives and communities of local elephant owners. The Care Project conducts outreach projects that consists of programs like Mahout re-education, community re-building and extra-curricular school programs. This year alone, we were key players in a big school outreach program in the northern part of Chiang Mai along with supporting animal shelters around the region.

2018 was also the year we witnessed our biggest online presence and effective outreach yet.

Thong Kam's (Phuket) rescue mission was proof of that! Our EJS family was beyond emotional during the rescue of Thong Kam. The online crowd-funding drive conducted by The Care Project, that ran for a month, managed to raise 60,000 thb (almost 10% of the entire rescue fees). We were extremely grateful for the funds raised. Thong Kam has since put on a significant amount of weight and looks plumper. She has also fully rehabilitated and socialises with ease now. This happy ending has been a consistent scenario we’ve been able to observe in the last year. Some rescues were a lot harder to look at and rehabilitate (e.g. Pong Sri) but all in all, we have had a good year of happy, healthy elephants. We really couldn’t have done it without all of you.

With the year coming to an end, it would not be right if we didn't try to make a difference in another at-risk elephant.

Pi Khun Thong, 50 is currently working as a riding elephant in Krabi. Blind on one eye, Pi Khun Thong is still made to work. She carries customers daily, from morning till the late afternoons.

EJS has been informed by Pi Khun Thong's owner that if we do not purchase her by the given deadline, then she will be sold to another entertainment place.

The way we see it, we are all part of the same community, working tirelessly to make this world a better place, the only way we know how. We cannot accomplish all that we need to do without working together. In the wise words of Halford E. Luccock, “No one can whistle a symphony, it takes a whole orchestra to play it.” This cannot be more true. You have shown us that. We cannot be more grateful for everything we have been able to achieve together.

And with that, from our family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and may 2019 bring you fruitful growth.
